Mileage is charged at just 45p a mile and Damien doesn’t charge for his travel time.

On one training day Damien flew to Scotland in the morning, was picked up by the client and flew back in the evening. Total travel expenses were less than £100.

Choosing a model

We can offer a selection of models to suit your genre/s for you to choose from. Alternatively you can book your own model or models. As in Case Study 3, you could choose to hire different models throughout the day if you have a combination of genres you need to shoot. For example, one eminent client chose one elderly lady, one young mum and one glamorous woman in her 40s. Another client chose a pregnant model, a teenager and a woman in her late 30s. During these types of days the models were only needed for approx. 2 hours each and they supplied their own makeup.

You are a true gentleman and your way of creating a respectful environment for the model was a great source on inspiration to me.

1-to-1 session – Lighting studio portraits with one or two lights

In this 1-to-1 session I taught my delegate how to create striking and simple portraits with the minimum of studio equipment. We covered the basics and then went on to shoot the dramatic and stylish images shown here.

It’s not how many lights you have in the studio that matters, it’s what you can do with them that counts. In one exciting session I can teach you how to take control of your lights to produce fabulous portraits. These skills will be with you forever.

More information about this shoot can be found on Damien’s blog.

Makeup began at 8.30am and my delegate arrived shortly after 9.00 having driven down from London. We discussed the day’s proceedings, goals and objectives with the team over coffee. The shoot session started at 9.30am we had various breakouts throughout the day for costume changes, lighting rigging and refreshments. Lunch was at the nearby pub, just 5 minutes walk away. The afternoon session started with a complete change of styles and the day eventually concluded at 5.30pm.

My delegate then drove into Bristol where he stayed overnight in a boutique hotel, The next day a different model and I joined him at the hotel for a 1-to-1 boudoir shoot training session. See Case Study 2.

1-to-1 boudoir shoot training at a boutique hotel in Bristol

This 1:1 training session was for the same delegate as Case Study 1. He wanted to further develop his skills at photographing women. He stayed in this boutique hotel for two nights and we shot in the bedroom throughout the day between. Chantelle, our model, did her own hair and makeup. We used just one light and a lot of imagination throughout the day.

We have many fine hotels and cottages available for boudoir shoots and you can get great value by combining the shoot venue with your accommodation.

1-to-1 boudoir training in a basement apartment

Below are a small sample set of pictures from a 1:1 training session. My brief was to teach how I create my high and low key boudoir shots with minimalist lighting kit. My client had the foresight to invest in a Lupolux Quadlight and a Lupolux 800 HMI spotlight so that is what we used. These pictures were taken in a very dark basement flat in Clifton Bristol. It is typically the hardest environment to shoot in so the maximum learning experience was gained. It is easy to shoot boudoir in a bright apartment with big windows but here we lit almost every shot from scratch.

Once we had covered the boudoir genre we went on to shoot Lovegrove nudes.

In one exciting session I can teach you how to make virtual sunlight, direct a model and capture beautiful pictures. Whether you shoot for pleasure or profit these skills will be with you forever.

My long suffering wife paid for a wonderful day with Damien for a day of sublime input tips training and advice. For me to spend time with someone who allows you to learn make mistakes and enjoy a day was something very memorable. Damien’s tips on light and how to use it, making you think of the location and what it can be used for was perfect for me. The fact that he is also one of the most genuine all round great blokes is even better. The day flew by and I so want to do it again ( and my wife has said yes ). For anyone beginner or learned a day with Damien isn’t to be missed.

Thank you Mr L for a really enjoyable and educational day, and thank you to Charlotte for your patience as my model for the day! It’s all new and it’s all incredibly exciting. Watch this space…!

I wanted to write this review to say that I actually booked a day of fashion shooting and lighting control with Damien, It must be 4 years ago now. It was absolutely brilliant and when I think about it now I still use it. The main things I find useful, is the key question ……What am I trying to achieve? and not getting bogged down with settings. it was about feeling in control of your own picture making.

I have just had the pleasure of 2 days of absolutely fantastic and very detailed photograhic tuition from Damien.
Day 1 consisted of ‘Getting to know your XT-2 camera’ followed by an afternoon photo session with the wonderful, patient and highly experienced model Claire Rammelkamp.
Day 2 was a full day of photographing the beautiful and most professional model Carla Monaco, in the beautifully restored Backwell House.
At the end of those 2 days, I now have a huge amount of information related to photography, lighting and posing models, and Damien was happy to let me pick his brain on a number of issues, for which I am extremely grateful.
If you have any doubts about your abilities as a photographer, how to pose models, how to setup and adjust your lighting to suit the mood, then contact Damien and book your training session. You will not be sorry and your photography will improve in leaps and bounds.
I will definitely be booking a 1:1 session in the summer to do the outdoor photography session. It is well worth every penny spent on this training.
Thanks Damien, for your patience and understanding, and putting up with all the questions.
    It is truly appreciated.
