Join top tutor Damien Lovegrove when he returns (again) to the American Wild West to run a spectacular photographic adventure in the high deserts of Arizona and Utah.
The route will be nothing short of spectacular. Together with a professional model (2 if we have 12 bookings) you’ll experience the magic of Route 66, photograph stunning vistas, explore abandoned shacks, journey through isolated canyons, and much, much more.
You’ll be photographing our top model as ‘figures in the landscape’ and in fashion portraits too. With an expert tutor as your guide you will be capturing some of your finest images to date and mastering new photography skills along the way. We will be using high powered flash on location (Godox Witstra) to create striking images that you will be able to recreate with your new found knowledge and skills.
The hard work was done in 2016 when Martin and Damien did an exploratory trip to suss out the best locations to shoot and the best places to stay. The experiences and findings from both their 2016 and 2017 trips will be fully incorporated into the 2018 masterful itinerary.
At the end of each day there will be plenty of opportunity to relax and unwind, and experience the social side of the adventure. Life is all about balance after all, and we promise a trip of a lifetime.
“You don’t have to be an expert photographer to join this road trip, just passionate about photography and have a thirst for adventure. I will freely share my knowledge and work with each of you in turn to ensure you capture shots of a lifetime” – Damien

The Road Trip
This adventure is limited to just 12 photographers. You can also bring along a non-shooting partner/friend to share the experience.
At full capacity, the group will be split into two groups of 6, plus one model, at each location, with Martin taking one group and Damien the other. After 20 minutes or so the groups of photographers swap, so that everyone gets to shoot everything. This system works really well and each day we’ll mix up the groups so you get to shoot alongside each other in turn. This year’s road trip is not currently at full capacity. We have one confirmed tour with Damien as tutor and one professional model.
We will be travelling in 4 or 5 large SUVs (depending on the number of non shooting partners) which will be pre-booked on a round trip basis from Las Vegas Airport. The driving will be shared throughout the trip and we will be venturing off road on tracks at times, hence the four wheel drive vehicles.
We’ll visit a range of stunning locations that could easily have come straight out of classic Hollywood movies. Portrait photography is Martin and Damien’s speciality and they will impart their extensive knowledge with you on various styled portrait shoots throughout the adventure. The principal aim is to have a morning photoshoot each day, then do the driving before ending the day with an afternoon/ evening photoshoot.
Accommodation and meals
The tour includes 7 nights accommodation with every participant having their own room. On the whole the locations are centrally located with adjacent restaurants and bars within an easy walking distance. Everything has been planned to make this adventure as enjoyable as possible.
Lunch stops will usually be at convenient food outlets on route between shoot locations. On some days we may need to do a Supermarket run in the morning to stock up on provisions before crossing the desert etc.
In the evening Damien will suggest a local restaurant so that everyone can relax and socialise together.
This 8 day tour starts and finishes in Las Vegas. If the Grand Canyon is on your bucket list, then this is the tour for you. The tour takes in the spirit of Route 66 where on day 1 we will stop off at a general stores and trading post to take photographs among abandoned Chevys. On our route back to Vegas, the last part of the tour will take us through Zion National Parks, Grafton ghost town and the Valley of Fire.
Changes for 2018: We may visit the northern rim of the Grand Canyon next time and move it toward the latter stages of the tour. More details coming soon.

Feedback from the 2017 tour
What an awesome trip. I can’t believe that it’s over. Thank you U.K. Team for organizing this adventure. Life time full of memories.
This was an Awesome adventure. I learned a lot from Damien and Martin, I made some wonderful friends, I ticked off some locations from my bucket list, and I ended up with some really decent photos. The off road excursions were truly adventures on their own. This was a trip I will never forget and I can’t say enough about Damien, Julie, Martin, Claire, and Lydia.
Thank you all for your friendship and good company. A big thank you to Damien, Julie and the team in the UK for a lot of hard work on our behalf.
After attending both the 2016 and 2017 tours Marie posted: Superb images that enable us to memorialize our wonderful photo vacation. I didn’t think it was possible to have such a fabulous time two years in a row, but I did! Should I go for a threepeat? 🙂
Thank you all so much for making so many happy memories from this workshop, especially Damien, Martin, Lydia and Claire, hope we all get to meet up again sometime.
Awesome adventure. Lifetime memories and friends. Thank you, Everyone!!
Another memorable WW Adventure, can’t believe my good fortune! It was a pleasure to meet everyone and I hope we all stay in touch. Many thanks to Damien, Martin, Julie, Lydia and Claire for your humour, warmth, encouragement and professionalism.
Considered by many to be one of the world’s most influential contemporary photographers, Damien is best known for creating portraits that make women look fabulous.
Joining the BBC at the age of 19, Damien worked as a cameraman and trained as a Lighting Director before leaving in 1998 to become a full time photographer.
Now a Fujifilm X Photographer and Fujifilm UK Ambassador, he has travelled the world as a commercial photographer, a wedding and portrait photographer and now a teacher, motivator, writer and columnist.
I’m delighted to announce that our model for this adventure is Yesenia. I shot these in a loft apartment in New York last year. I used one light and styled the shoot with simplicity.
All the lighting kit will be provided including flash equipment, lighting stands and reflectors. All flash systems will be triggered by universal radio systems also provided. All the technical instruction and guidance you need throughout the shoot will be shared by Damien.
At little walking over fairly uneven terrain will be involved. Our aim is to stay within a 30 minute walk of the vehicles at each location.
Should you cancel this tour for any reason, no refund will be available unless your place is resold. If you would like to cancel your place on this event please contact us by phone or email as soon as possible.
As our costs for each training event remain the same regardless of how many delegates attend, like any pre-booked tickets for the theatre, concert, flights etc, we are unable to give a full refund in the event of non-attendance, regardless of the circumstances.
The exception to this is if we have prior notice and are able to put a cancellation place back online AND your place is resold. In this event we will of course make a full refund or credit to you. We also reserve the right to cancel any workshop if there is insufficient demand, especially if it means that our costs would be higher than our income. Please therefore do not leave it until the last few weeks if you are interested in a particular date, as you may find that it has been removed! Please note that we cannot be liable for any other costs incurred by yourself, so please check with us before booking any non-refundable accommodation or transport.
